It's been a while since I've had a chance to do any model work. A couple of my friends have been bugging me for some updated models so I finally broke down and did a little work. I hope you all enjoy the new collection of gravity weapons I've added. Below is a picture of the Combination Gravity Gun, the Gravity Pistol and the Gravity Gun. All are 28mm and will fit the standard 28mm models.

You can purchase these models from my Shapeways store front, or from the links below.

As of a couple months ago I began working full time, and taking night classes, as you can imagine this has really taken a toll on my time towards Custom Minis, and I know some of my customers have gotten the short end when trying to contact me. I'd just like to apologize for that delay, and wanted to come out and say for the time being I'll be halting commission work at Custom Minis.

What does this mean? Well it means that I will not be taking in new custom works for now until I finish up school, or stop working. Luckily the way I currently have things set up, this will not affect any of my current products being 3D printed. Because all of the production is taken care of a third party, including orders and shipping, there will be no delay in getting items you purchase from my Shapeway store.

When time permits, I look forward to working with everyone again on your fantastic and creative ideas. In the mean time I might be putting together a couple new things for an army I'm doing in what little spare time I have left, so be keeping an eye out for that.

Thanks again for all of your support.

Here are the renders of the Custom Combination Weapons that are now available for purchase. I'll be sending them off to be painted tomorrow and will have photos of them soon. In the mean time feel free to go to the store and make a purchase.
Hi everyone, I just got the pictures in from the freshly painted Dual Mech Guns done by Ryan Hulsey. He did a great job of painting these and has made them pop quite a bit.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8044317544249865664.post-50348762690504161532012-04-16T16:20:00.002-05:002012-04-16T16:20:49.699-05:00Resin Dual Mech Guns Now Available

I've finished converting the previous 3D printed version of the Dual Mech Guns over to resin. This has lowered their price considerably. Head on over to the weapons section of the store and see the new price.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8044317544249865664.post-59841035477805411532012-03-29T12:08:00.001-05:002012-03-29T12:08:57.375-05:00New Painted Skull Helmets and Store Available

Hi Everyone. As promised here are pictures of the painted Resin Skull Helmets. Sorry about my unsteady hand, but the pictures should show the detail in the models.

Also, I've updated the store so that these heads are now available for sale along with the new resin mountain bases that have been done over the last week. I have some orders in for some of the past 3D models I've done so that I can start converting them to resin casts so that I can bring the price down.

I have just recently re-bundled the old 28mm Squad Marking Shoulder Pads into sets of 20 to update them to the new way Shapeways is handling their orders. Now each individual pad will not be charged the setup fee! Here is a list of the new Bundles and a link to their location on Shapeways where they can be purchased.
The first test of the new 28mm Skull Helmets. They look like they came out quite well. Once the weather dies down I'll base coat them and start painting them up to try to pull out more of the detail from the white resin.

I'm currently looking into other sets I've worked on in the past to make the first rounds in the new resin store I'm putting together. Expected some Mech Dual Guns to be coming in resin soon, which should help lower the costs from printing them.

Getting Your Custom Shoulder Pad Started
First thing first, is finding an image that best represents the design you would like to have on your Shoulder Pad. The image does not have to be super detailed, as long as the shape of what you are wanting can be clearly seen. Here is a great example of an image that works.

As you can see here, it's a simple picture of a Jester's hat. In this example the client wished to have this hat on top of the iconic table top gaming skull, and the result was this 2D representation of the design requested by the client. The 2D representation of an image on a shoulder pad will consist of a siloette of the image or icon wanted, and then relieved onto the shoulder pad.

3D representations of images and icons are also capable of being done, and can offer quite a bit more detail and flare to your table top army, here is a link to the same Jester Hat on a Skull but in a 3D format. And a printed and painted image of it can be seen below.

3D Custom Shoulder Pad

Now with some of the details out of the way, you're probably asking how much things cost. Well there are two pricing structures for Custom Shoulder Pads and it depends on what design type you want.

2D Custom Shoulder Pads
2D Custom Shoudler Pads have a commission fee of $25. This fee covers the cost of having your chosen design created in a 3D format that can then be printed to be used for your table top army. These shoulder pads are then bundled into sets of 20, started at a cost of $1.25 each, or $25 total for the White Detail Material. For those wishing to have more detail and quality in their shoulder pad, Frosted Ultra Detail is the way to go, and these are also bundled into sets of 20, at a cost of $1.50 each, or $30 total.

3D Custom Shoulder Pads
3D Custom Shoulder Pads have a commission fee of $50. This fee will also cover the cost of having your chosen design created in a 3D format for printing and use in your table top army. Because 3D design use more material, they cost slightly more per shoulder pad, but the detail is well worth it. These shoulder pads are bundled in packs of 20 also, and begin at $1.75 each or $35 total for White Detail Material. Or you can purchase them in Frosted Ultra Detail at $2.00 a pad in bundles of 20.

What are the Different Materials
White Detail Material is a form of plastic that gives a .2mm level of detail. This material works quite well for medium detail designs that do not require text or very small levels of detail. It is rated to a temperature of 118 degrees Fahrenheit so it shouldn't be melting in your car. For more information feel free to visit the material page here.

White Detail Material

Frosted Ultra Detail is also a form of plastic that gives a .1mm level of detail, or twice the sharpness of White Detail Material. I often recommend this material for anything that has small designs or text, or where you would like your design and custom bit to come out extra crisp. This material has a rating of 176 degrees Fahrenheit, so if you live somewhere you can cook eggs on the sidewalk, this is the material you should go after. For more information feel free to visit the material page here.

Frosted Ultra Detail on the Left

Ordering your Custom Shoulder Pads
After the commission for your Custom Shoulder Pad is completed, you will be provided with a link that will be simuliar to this one, http://shpws.me/2ERl. This link contains your commissioned bit where you can choose the material you like and then purchase it from Shapeways at the cost shown in the page. Here you will also be able to choose with material you will like to purchase in the upper right hand corner (It will show either Frosted Ultra Detail or White Detail Material, and by Clicking it you can switch between the two and see the price).

After purchasing your bits it will generally take 10 business days for your order to be shipped, but there can be delays with some materials when there is a high demand. For more information on status of materials you can find it here.

Also for Shipping information and costs please click here.
If you have any other questions about the process or how to get your very own Custom Shoulder Pads and/or bits for your Table Top Army feel free to email me or comment on the post.

Since Custom Minis got started, Custom Shoulder Pads have been the largest requested item to be created and ordered. I've tried to keep these cheap and easy for you, but in the last month there have been a couple changes made, and it's time to share how the changes Shapeways has made to their pricing structure is affecting Custom Minis and you. First off, Shapeways is now charging a minimum fee per item in their store. In the past I was able to sell shoulder pads individually at $1.25, but they are now charging a minimum $2.50, which throws a single shoulder pad all the way up to $3.75 which is not acceptable for you or me.

Because of this I will be bundling Shoulder Pads in minimum orders of 20. I have also decided to keep the price of the White Detail Material Shoulder Pads at $1.25, eating the cost of the $2.50 and keeping the bundle to a price of $25. The Frosted Ultra Detail material will keep it's price at bundle price of $30 for 20.

If you have any questions feel free to send me an email or comment.

Hello everyone,

I would just like to start by thanking everyone who has been supporting Custom Minis so far. I just received an email from Shapeways that they will be updating their Pricing Structure starting on October 1st. I've been able to review the information slightly and it appears Shapeways will not be charging a Handling Fee (startup cost per model) to help overcome their cost of operations.

This is not anything new from Shapeways as we experienced this when they we were testing out the Ultra Detail material Shapeways offers. But they will now be charging this for every material. We are currently evaluating how this will effect the way we do things here at Custom Minis but it appears we will have to begin bundling miniatures into larger groups to split the Handling fee over many models. After I have review the situation Custom Minis may end up dropping White Detail material and use solely the Ultra Detail material to provide the best product at the best price.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share some of the new prints that I recently got in. Above is a photo of a test model that was done to test the limits of the printing process. As you can tell the model is quite small compared to the penny, with the fingers being a mere .3mm in diameter, the minimum size required for printing.

Here you can see a printing of the various shoulder pad designs using the Ultra Fine Detail material, which prints at a detail level of .1mm. The material is a clear plastic, but you can see the Wreath, Arrow, Triangle and X Arrow designs that are offered online.

Above is another image of the shoulder pads. Expect to see more soon, as well as these painted to help show off the level of detail reached.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8044317544249865664.post-37230776158304628262011-07-25T08:34:00.000-05:002011-07-25T08:48:23.287-05:00Product Update: 3D Shoulder Pads

All prices on Shapeways have been fixed. All single shoulder pads will now be using the White detail material instead of the Ultra Detail material. For more information on White detail materials please visit the material page on Shapeways.

* * * * *

Hi everyone, I just recently received an email from Shapeways letting me know they were changing their Pricing on the Ultra Detail material to a five dollar minimum per item. This changes was immediate and has changed all of the pricing for shoulder pads completely. Basically making a single shoulder pad $5 + material costs.

I will be working on restructuring the pricing method for all of the items I currently sale over the next week, and this will most likely cause a minimum purchase of each type of shoulder pad (10 pads) to make it echonomical for me to sale them and for you to purchase them.

I apologize for any problems Shapeways price change might cause over the next week, but the prices should be fixed and hopefully back to the normal level at volume by Wednesday, July 6th.

Thank you for your patience.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
